Webcast: Consultant and Lawyer Arnie Herz to Present on Effective Networking

One of the main routes to new business in the practice of law today is: networking.

Yet, many lawyers readily admit that they’ll do almost anything to avoid networking.

The excuses include:

  • “I don’t have time.”
  • "I'm too shy"
  • “I have no idea where to find potential clients.”
  • “I don’t want to seem pushy or artificial”
  • “Crowds make me uneasy.”

In this 60-minute webcast, attorney, consultant and speaker Arnie Herz will teach you how:

  • How to get excited about networking
  • Why networking is not about hard sells, palm-pressing and ego-boosting
  • The "secrets" of "effective conversation" that help you instantly connect with other people
  • How naturally shy people can become effective networkers by choosing their "comfort zones"
  • Networking techniques that foster valuable, long-term personal and professional relationships
  • A 15-day gameplan to bring your networking to the next level
  • And much more. . . . .

Special Offer: The first 10 firms to register will be entitled to a complimentary "taking it to the next level," 50 minute follow up conference call with Arnie for their attorneys to discuss implementing the "networking" ideas discussed in the workshop (a $250 value!).

Events: National Work-In-Your-Bunny-Slippers Day
For those attorneys who work from home, please be aware that February 18, 2005 has been designated National Work-in-Your-Bunny-Slippers Day. The Day is intended to celebrate entrepreneurs and small business owners who embrace the entrepreneurial lifestyle and operate home-based businesses in their ‘bunny slippers.’ While clearly a gimmick devised by a company that runs seminars advising people on becoming self-employed (and hopefully rich), for those lawyers who can pull it off, working from home can certainly be something to celebrate. See the press release.

Events: New York Flex Time Lawyers Meeting: Tuesday, January 25, 2005
The next meeting of New York Flex Time Lawyers LLC is Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 12:30 p.m. at Dewey Ballantine LLP at 1301 Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue between 52nd & 53rd Streets). New York Flex Time Lawyers is a networking and support organization for lawyers who work a flexible and/or reduced schedule or seek greater work/life balance. Members meet monthly for lunch to discuss topics relating to work/life balance in the law and occasionally hear guest speakers.

The topic for the January 25th meeting is: Where are the Men? When the talk in legal settings turns to work/life balance, there is often a silence that takes over the men. Why is that? At this meeting, James J. Sandman, the Managing Partner of Arnold & Porter LLP, will share his perspective gleaned from a six-month sabbatical as a full-time father when his first child was born. From his experience, Jim learned that anything a legal employer can do to ease the burdens of juggling work and family will be among the most valued benefits the employer can provide. Jim will discuss how increased use by fathers of family-friendly benefits will improve work/life balance for both men and women. Jim will also explain that significant change will ultimately depend on senior managers’ willingness to lead by example, by not only permitting and encouraging fathers to use family-friendly policies but also by the managers taking advantage of the policies themselves.

Contact Deborah Epstein Henry, founder of Flex Time Lawyers LLC, at dehenry@flextimelawyers.com to attend this meeting.
