Work Life Winner: Littler Mendelson Helps Attorneys Balance Family and Partnership
Early in her career at Littler Mendelson's Atlanta office, Dionysia Johnson-Massie knew she wanted to raise a family. While the policies at many other large firms might have forced Johnson-Massie to make a choice between devoting more time to her children and becoming a partner, Johnson-Massie says that Littler Mendelson doesn't subscribe to the arcane view that women with children can't also make excellent partners. As a result, Johnson-Massie was able to feel comfortable beginning a family about a year and a half before her partnership vote.
As discussed in this recent article appearing in the Fulton County Daily Report (published by American Lawyer Media), more firms are finding that policies addressing quality-of-life issues - such as reduced billable hour requirements, as well as those encouraging diversity, are paying dividends in terms of higher retention rates and even new rainmaking opportunities.
